Exhibits Showcase the Work of Winslow Homer

Members of the Gozaic online community have the opportunity to explore and share travel passions with others through “circles of interest.” Johanna McBrien, moderator of the Discovering Antiques and Art Circle and editor-in-chief of Antiques & Fine Art magazine, recently blogged about a few venues where art history buffs will have the chance to view works by the late Winslow Homer.

One hundred years have passed since the artist’s death, and today he is still celebrated for his oil paintings, watercolors and illustrations that depict 19th-century American life. Three museums will pay tribute to Homer, with a special focus on his images of coastal life in Prouts Neck, Maine. Gozaic partner Dyer Library and Saco Museum in Saco, Maine, will host the exhibition, “In a Place By Himself: The Graphic World of Winslow Homer,” from June 26-Nov. 14, 2010. Additional exhibits are at the Portland Museum of Art and the Dallas Museum of Art.

Are you a fan of Winslow Homer’s work? Share your thoughts on the centennial commemoration of his death and the upcoming exhibits in the comments section below. If you enjoy antiques and art travel, make sure to join the circle!
